Ray and Albert

Ray and Albert

Scott loved the opening for Dirty Harry – he constantly made reference to the scene’s effectiveness – the girl in the pool – the siren like voice, and the music.

That opening instrument is a Waterphone – it is also used when Neo takes the red pill in The Matrix. This otherworldly sound ended up helping set the tone for impending trouble throughout the film, and to specifically underscore Ray and Albert’s inner workings. The Waterphone is a fantastic instrument in that it behaves sort of unexpectedly, creating mid to high range drones that evoke a certain eeriness.

At the fore is Ray and Albert’s Theme, a slight variation of the main theme where again, Tom was instrumental in finding the variation with those first four notes mainly in the Harp. After that, I developed the cue into a complete phrase as we are introduced to Ray and Albert following a black Mercedes in the rain.
